Can you really trust who you love?

A large American hospital, the Massachusetts General Hospital. This is where Charlotte Cooper, a young nurse, landed her dream job. As soon as she arrives in the ward she runs into Hayden King, nicknamed Doctor Dream by all for her beauty and her undisputed charm. Hayden, however, is also apparently unapproachable and grumpy. Above all, he hides a difficult past and many secrets that he must keep at all costs to protect his loved ones. Doctor Dream, however, has not come to terms with Charlotte's curiosity and stubbornness who is well determined to investigate him, whatever the cost. And as the attraction between the two becomes more and more uncontrollable, the girl realizes that the handsome doctor hides terrible and dangerous truths for everyone, especially for her. Will fear or attraction win?

To this question begins to answer “Doctor Dream. Between dream and nightmare ”(Sperling & Kupfer, 2021, pp. 352, also e-book), the first novel of a four-part saga born from the imagination of Claudia Castiello, a young writer (born in 1994) born in the province of Sassari.

A saga, that of Doctor Dream which has a very particular story behind it as Claudia Castiello confirms:

“In 2016 I started writing on Wattpad, the best known social platform for fiction and digital writing. The first things I wrote had nothing to do with the Doctor Dream saga, which was born some time later and had a great reception on Wattpad, so much so that I decided to self-publish the story on Amazon. There, too, the reception was good and in the end I was contacted by Sperling & Kupfer who in the meantime had started a collaboration with Wattpad ”.

The Doctor Dream saga has had a whopping four million views on Wattpad. What do you attribute this success to?

“When I started writing the events related to the figure of Hayden King, stories like mine - in which suspense, mystery and passions are intertwined - were not very present on Wattpad. This mix of genres and themes attracted readers, fueled word of mouth ”.

Does your saga have any source of inspiration?

“I'm honest: it is inspired, but very distantly, from the TV series centered on the figure of Dr. House. But it is a very nuanced inspiration for how much I love that television series very much ”.

How would you define your protagonist, Hayden King in a nutshell?

“I could call him a good person, despite the mysteries surrounding him and his turbulent past. I liked the idea of going against the trend of the classic bad boy figure that is so fashionable ”.

How would Charlotte define her instead?

“Charlotte is a determined and strong young woman, but above all very curious. And curiosity often makes her impulsive enough to do what goes through her head without thinking about the consequences and troubles that can arise from her behavior. On Wattpad many female readers got angry at Charlotte's impulsiveness ”.

But is yours more a tale of love or mystery?

“We are fifty to fifty. The mystery feeds the love story and love follows the development of the mystery. This is the beauty of the Doctor Dream saga ”.
