Fabio Pisacane made it on the penultimate matchday, just like Davide Nicola a year ago and Claudio Ranieri in 2024: Cagliari is safe and will play in Serie A next season. The milestone achieved with 90 minutes to spare, beating Torino 2-1 in the final match at Unipol Domus , is the culmination of a season that was certainly not easy, but one that the Rossoblu have brought to fruition: "I was always convinced we could stay up," says the coach, puffing out his chest. "If we think about positive things, positive things can happen. I was nervous, given the responsibility I had on my shoulders, but I never thought about not making it."

Pisacane's first season as a Serie A coach ended on a high note. "Even in difficult times, there were many things in our favor," he emphasized. " We were, at times, at the mercy of events, but we always remained very upright . As I said at the start, this was crucial: it allowed us to achieve our goal." He then returned to the topic of staying up: "We achieved it twice, first after Verona and the three consecutive victories, then after Atalanta. Now we've mathematically secured it."

Regarding tonight's Cagliari-Torino match, Pisacane focused on the management: "I think we played a strong game last week, but in football everything makes up for it, and we dropped points we didn't deserve under other circumstances. Tonight, I'd like to emphasize that we finally beat a team that's been through two legs: this, along with the staff, has made us think a bit this week ."

It wasn't an easy season, but Cagliari and Pisacane managed to improve on their 2024-2025 numbers. "It wasn't easy for me to get them to follow me, especially in the first half, but once they realized that everything we were doing was to put them in a position to gain an advantage, they followed me to the letter." Today, the rossoblù reached the 40-point milestone, bringing in several young players this season. "If you achieve your goal by doing this work, everything counts double. We took risks and were rewarded with the final result."

Pisacane had a thought for Pavoletti: "He deserves great respect. I would have liked to see all his goals and how many times I hugged him, because when we played together, I was the first to run to him. His future is in the right place to give him the role he wants to play ." The coach saw him in two ways: "Four and a half years as a player, one as a coach. Despite his ailments, he has always been an exemplary professional; we have two strong personalities and we've interacted a lot. I'm happy: I wanted the team to say goodbye to him in this way, with a victory."

For Cagliari, it's been a very intense nine months of the season. "There were some difficult moments during the season, like the locker room after the defeat in Pisa," Pisacane recalls. " I carried a significant burden of responsibility, but I think the turning points were two key moments: the home games against Roma and Cremonese . But let's talk about the pitch; there's nothing to reveal because it happens in every locker room. If we got to this point, it's because there was consistency there."

Regarding his future, having said that staying up leads to an automatic contract renewal for Pisacane, the coach began by expressing his thanks: " I'm enjoying this evening. I thank Tommaso Giulini for seeing something in me that even I wouldn't have imagined a few years ago . I hope he's happy with what we've done; he really wanted to get to 40 points. There will be time to talk with the club, as long as they're happy with our work as a staff. I was able to demonstrate that you can bet not only on young players, but also on young coaches: I look to the future with great confidence."
