Cagliari has qualified for the Coppa Italia round of 16, where they will face Napoli away. They defeated Frosinone 4-1 at Unipol Domus, in a match (decided in the final quarter) in which Fabio Pisacane fielded an alternative lineup, resulting in Borrelli and Cavuoti scoring their first goals for the Rossoblu.
Forty-seven seconds and it's a penalty: Borrelli on the right gets away from Cittadini, who touches it; the referee immediately points to the spot. Gaetano steps up to take the penalty, but Pisseri sees the low shot to his right, but it's too angled. Cagliari takes the lead in the second minute . The immediate goal gives the Rossoblu peace of mind, and they control the game. Frosinone makes its first appearance in the 13th minute, with a cross from the right to the far post that Masciangelo heads wide.
The visitors had a big chance to equalize in the 16th minute: Cichella stole possession from Rog on the edge of the box, and Kvernadze came on, skipping past Zé Pedro and streaking down the left. When he attempted to lob the ball over Ciocci, his shot went wide . Cagliari came very close to doubling their lead in the 21st minute, when Gaetano played a great pass to Kılıçsoy, who ran centrally, but Bracaglia blocked his shot, and Pisseri saved it. Immediately afterward, a dangerous free kick from Grosso—a son of a football legend—flew just wide.
A huge missed chance in the 26th minute: a great play by Kılıçsoy on the right, a cross for Rog who fails to deflect, and in the center of the area Gaetano sends a sort of moving penalty high. And in the 36th minute, Frosinone equalized, with a corner taken at the far post by Gelli and a burst from close range by Vergani, forgotten by the Cagliari defense . Three minutes later, on another corner resulting from a misplaced clearance by Rog, Ndow heads the ball against the crossbar. Before the break, in the 45th minute, Zappa is off injured and Di Pardo comes on.
The second half kicked off with two more substitutions for Cagliari, Felici and Deiola replacing Kılıçsoy and Rog, switching from a 4-3-1-2 to a 4-3-2-1 . Within two minutes, Felici immediately crossed from a corner to Mazzitelli, whose header forced a brilliant save from Pisseri. Thirty seconds later, Pisseri made a dramatic save after a rebound between Borrelli and Gelli, once again courtesy of the Rossoblu number 17. Felici again, in the 50th minute, moved inside and once again drew a fine save from Pisseri with his right foot. Cagliari were back in the 53rd minute with a pass from Deiola from the outside of the box for Borrelli, who was unlucky to slip while dribbling in the box.
Upon restarting play, after two substitutions for Frosinone (Grosso, who had been booked shortly before, and Ndow, replaced by Calò and Raychev), Cagliari regained the lead. In the 67th minute, Felici broke away down the left and crossed from the byline for Borrelli to fire a right-footed shot to the far post, opening the scoring for the Rossoblu . Mazzitelli was immediately replaced by Adopo. Zé Pedro also came close to scoring his first goal for Cagliari from a corner in the 73rd minute, but his deflection went just wide.
Pisacane's final substitution was Esposito for Gaetano in the 77th minute. And the number 94 immediately made his mark in less than three minutes, with a chip down the left that set up Idrissi, who played it to Felici: the winger left Cittadini on the spot with a sensational run and made it 3-1 in front of Pisseri. In the 84th minute, former Primavera player Cavuoti, returning this year from a loan spell at Feralpisalò, also scored the fourth with a fine left-footed strike from just inside the penalty area after a mix-up with Esposito , following a great play by Borrelli on Cittadini.
