Pierluigi Carta has signed a long-term contract extension with Cagliari. The Rossoblu manager has signed a contract extension until June 30, 2029, as sporting director of the club's youth academy.

After an initial stint at Cagliari, he moved to Olbia in Serie C before returning to the Rossoblu in 2019, also serving as sporting director of the first team in 2020-2021.

Among his key achievements were the Primavera team's qualification for the playoffs in the 2021-2022 season, with Zito Luvumbo among the key players (he was one of his signings, along with Adam Obert, among others), and, of course, the Primavera Italian Cup victory on April 9th in the final at the Arena Civica in Milan, with Fabio Pisacane's Rossoblu triumphing 3-0 against AC Milan. Carta has launched a number of young players: to name a few, Niccolò Cavuoti, Giuseppe Ciocci, and Riyad Idrissi are now in the first team , the latter having made his debut for the Italy Under-21s a week ago , while Ivan Sulev and Yael Trepy are also part of the Primavera. Defender Nicola Pintus also recently renewed his contract with the club.

"Pierluigi Carta's contract renewal," Cagliari Calcio announced, "represents a further step forward in planning, foresight, and a focus on the future . This is in full alignment with the club's vision: to leverage the region's resources while maintaining a national and international focus, through collaborative work that focuses on the growth and development of young players with a view to reaching the first team."

Along with Carta, Cagliari's Academy staff includes Mattia Belfiori , the youth sector manager Oscar Erriu , and the technical director Bernardo Mereu . Danilo Sancamillo is the database content manager.
