A thrilling final gives Cagliari qualification for the round of 32 of the Italian Cup. After a 0-0 draw in the 90's, it finished 2-1 over Palermo with goals from Dossena and Di Pardo in the 3' added time of the second extra time, after the Sicilians had scored the 1 minute earlier 1 with Soleri.

Ranieri chooses the 4-4-2, with Radunovic in goal, Zappa, Dossena, Obert and Augello in defense, Nandez, Makoumbou, Sulimana and Azzi making up the midline and Oristanio in support of Pavoletti. The first thrill, however, was given by Brunori, after 4', with a right foot defused by Radunovic.

Cagliari grows and becomes dangerous by exploiting the two sides. At 16', Augello flies in the left lane, Pavoletti's bank and Oristanio's high right. In the 22nd minute, the Var signals to referee Marinelli a touch with Mateju's hand. It's a penalty, but Pavoletti lets himself be hypnotized by Pigliacelli and on the rebuttal it is Lucioni who comes close to his own goal, sending the ball first onto the post and then into the corner.

The missed penalty extinguished the Rossoblù's enthusiasm, who only became dangerous in the 28th minute with Azzi's header wide. Indeed, it was Palermo that touched the big target, with a right-footed shot from Gomes (46') saved for a corner by Radunovic and then a flicker from Vasic (49') again saved by the Serbian goalkeeper.

The second half starts with the same formations as in the first 45' and with the same difficulties as Cagliari, which never manages to appear dangerous in Pigliacelli's area. Ranieri tries to stir things up by inserting Luvumbo and Deiola for Azzi and Nandez, switching to a 4-3-3, but it is still Palermo who come close to scoring with a header by Lucioni saved in front of goal by Augello (33') . Viola, Di Pardo and Shomurodov also took off from the bench (Makoumbou, Oristanio and Pavoletti off), but the result didn't change even after 4' of added time. And in the 49th minute Mancuso missed the goal that would have decided the match.

In extra time, Viola gives the shock. First he came close to scoring (9') with a left foot in front of goal deflected by Pigliacelli and then, from the corner, catching Dossena for the goal that unlocked the match (10'). Fatigue makes itself felt, the teams lengthen. At the end of the first overtime, Luvumbo sends the ball to the outside of the net with his left foot. In the second half, Cagliari controlled the Sicilians' reaction and came close to scoring with Augello's left foot deflected for a corner. Palermo (without Brunori, replaced) becomes dangerous with Mancuso, with a header from the back, and little more. It seems over, but the best is yet to come. In the 16th minute Soleri heads everyone ahead and scores the 1-1. It seemed necessary to go into extra time and instead, in the 18th minute, Di Pardo made it 2-1 on Luvumbo's cross, which earned him qualification.
