«Galsi is positive news if you respect environmental constraints and do it quickly».

This is the comment by Confartigianato Sardinia on the news of the resumption of the construction of the new gas pipeline which will have its hubs on the island and which will also transport hydrogen, ammonia and electricity, sanctioned by the agreement between the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni and the Algerian president Tebboune .

«As an entrepreneurial association - explains a note from Confartigianato - we are in favor of this restart and of everything that will allow, now and in the future, to be able to benefit from clean energy, at a low price and above all, which can come from multiple supply channels . All this on the condition that environmental constraints are respected, therefore having the least possible impact on the environment, that bureaucracy is cut, Sardinian companies and manpower are used, in short, that it is done quickly and well. We will be guardians of all this and we will not compromise ».

«We have to say it immediately and clearly: abandoning the construction of the Galsi was a disastrous choice, short-sighted and without prospects made, among other things, without creating alternatives that
they could have had by encouraging, and not hindering, alternative and renewable energies - comment Maria Amelia Lai and Daniele Serra , President and Secretary of Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna - it is still unclear what were the real reasons for not constructing the pipeline, whether technical or if without economic return, but because of all this, Sardinian businesses and citizens find themselves paying a very high price and being in a condition from which it will be very difficult to get out, at least in the short term».

«We must also remember - they continue - to remember that Galsi was included in the list of Projects of Community Interest. The European Commission had confirmed its strategic role for the EU by allocating a non-repayable loan for the project of 120 million euros, as part of the anti-crisis measures package (EEPR) already in 2018. We have lost track of these funds. What is certain is that, unfortunately, Sardinia has lost 22 years of time and development, hampered by short-sighted political choices, excessive bureaucracy, and prospective visions
limited, retrograde and closed to the future. In the meantime, everything has been prevented and solutions have not been found ».
«On all this we must not forget that a huge slice of competitiveness is at stake with the other European regions and areas - continue Lai and Serra - already 10 years ago, our survey revealed how each Sardinian company spent a good 2,708 euros more than the other European companies and 932 euros more than in other Italian regions. In practice, 1.03% of the added value vanished in higher energy costs. If on average each Italian company paid 1,776 euros more per year for electricity than European entrepreneurs, this gap widened to 3,151 euros for each Friuli Venezia Giulia company, followed in second place by Sardinian companies with 2,708 euros and narrowed down, in last place, with the 954 euros of Calabria».

«Today, due to high energy prices, about 95,000 micro and small businesses in Sardinia are under attack, those with fewer than 10 employees - Lai and Serra say again - the situation recorded an increase of almost 850 million euros in 2022, determining an increase of +147.1% compared to last year, the fourth largest increase in all of Italy, against a national average of +135%».

«Even if the new Galsi were to come into operation in 10 years – Confartigianato comments – companies now need clean, renewable and free or low-cost energy. For this reason, we have presented some proposals on energy efficiency to the regional government
corporate to support companies in the installation of energy production plants from renewable sources and to intervene on the ecological transition and on the reduction of consumption and costs and requested an intervention of 50 million euros ».
