Last hours of hope for the 1,322 workers of Air Italy between Sardinia and Lombardy, who hope - in extremis - for an extension of the layoffs due on December 31st.

It comes to the bitter end, with the meeting convened at the Ministry of Labor - where a garrison of airline employees was also organized - which was updated in the afternoon.

In the morning, the property reiterated its willingness to close the dismissal procedure today.

"During the meeting we listened to the hallucinating and infamous statements of the representatives of the company, who decided to dismiss the workers today, practically on Christmas Eve and before the approval of the Budget law in which we are working to insert ad hoc rules for stem the devastating crisis affecting air transport "- explained Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Ugl Transport Air -, now we need the immediate opening of an inter-ministerial table with the direct involvement of the ministers concerned, Giorgetti, Giovannini and Orlando, guilty absent throughout the dispute ".

According to the trade unions, "the total disregard for the fate of these workers is unacceptable, especially the silence of the departments of Economic Development and Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility".

THE REGION: "DISAPPOINTED BY THE COMPANY" - "We are deeply disappointed by the refusal by Air Italy to avoid the dismissal of male and female workers", commented Labor Councilor Alessandra Zedda, "we cannot let this dispute closes without job protection. Also for this reason this morning the Regions and trade unions strongly requested the opening of the inter-ministerial table. The hope is that a solution can be reached to stop the layoffs but we also hope that we can build the path relating to the extension of the redundancy fund but above all to reintegration ".

THE BIPARTISAN APPEAL OF POLITICS - Politics has also launched a bipartisan appeal to avert layoffs.

"The Ministry of Labor has worked hard to tackle this situation: now the support of the entire government is needed to avert a new social disaster that will hit Sardinia and Lombardy. For some time now, a dramatic job haemorrhage to the Alitalia and Air Italy events are added the crisis of many small companies. President Draghi takes the field, coordinating a common table on the issue, on the one hand to support the continuation of social safety nets beyond 31 December 2021, and on the other to start a global reflection on the subject to restore serenity to thousands of families who are seeing their future collapse ", declared the democratic deputy Gavino Manca.

Salvatore Deidda, a member of the Brothers of Italy, spoke on the dispute: "For two years, I have been waiting for a response from the Ministry of Transport to treat the Air Italy dispute as that of Alitalia, but neither the Conte nor the Draghi governments have ever had the decency to answer. These workers are being deprived of their jobs and also layoffs despite the amendments of the majority and opposition. May the government have the courage to come to the Chamber to deal with this social drama ".
