The reactions of trade unions and politics were not long in coming after the departure of the first dismissal letters for Air Italy workers.

"Unfortunately the moment that we feared and that we tried to avoid until the end has arrived, the dismissal letters of the 1400 Air Italy workers started, in the total indifference of the institutions", the comment of Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Ugl Air Transport, which again asked for "immediate intervention by the Government to block the procedure and thus avert this real social tragedy that is taking place".

"Several times in recent months - continue the trade unions - we have asked for a decisive intervention to resolve the situation with concrete proposals that have remained unheard. With a provision in derogation of the Budget Law, in fact, the redundancy fund could have been extended to all the 1,400 workers of Air Italy also for next year, regardless of the decisions taken by the company. We then continue to reiterate the importance of establishing a national retraining and relocation area of air transport personnel, essential in order not to waste the 'huge wealth of professionalism of the workers not only of Air Italy, but of the whole sector ".

"We are astonished - conclude Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Ugl Transport by Air - by the complete inertia of the Government and institutions in the face of this dramatic situation. For other companies in other sectors, solutions have been sought that have avoided this social drama. air transport, on the other hand, as many initiatives to safeguard the sector are not being undertaken, a serious lack of the Government that disconcerts us and leads us to think of fighting actions that involve the whole sector ".

"Today, a lot of bitterness is added to the concern for workers because those letters dated January 2, 2022 represent an institutional slap in the face to the Government, to the Sardinia and Lombardy regions but above all to 1,322 families", commented the Councilor for Labor of the Solinas junta Alessandra Zedda. .

"We have just had time to wish a year of hope and work to all Sardinians, which the ownership of Air Italy sent the dismissal letters to the employees - adds Zedda - A hypothesis that we have tried to avoid until the end, using dialogue, trying to activate every useful tool so that the redundancy fund could be extended and making concrete proposals to the property ".

"Now we ask the ministers involved to convene the Regions and trade unions with the utmost urgency with the aim of building the future of workers: we need to act promptly to remove the specter of Naspi - concludes the regional councilor - We have a duty to put together the measures necessary to keep workers active and protect and enhance their skills and professionalism so that they can re-enter the labor market and in particular that of air transport. The Sardinia Region is ready to do its part ".
