On 21 October 1923 at the Deutsches Museum in Munich, Zeiss showed the first starry sky projected from a Planetarium to a small audience, thus beginning 100 years of the cosmos told under the domes of the planetariums.

If initially the Planetariums were created with the aim of showing the night sky, to tell about the stars and constellations, in the 100 years of their existence they have evolved and are now machines capable of taking guests on a journey through space and time, to discovery of the Universe. Machines that allow you to see with your own eyes what in the real sky would take hours, weeks or centuries to occur. Machines that show us the Universe beyond human sight, the cosmos observed by telescopes and space probes.

On October 21st, celebrations to commemorate this anniversary begin all over the world, and the Planetarium of L'Unione Sarda has included a series of special events dedicated to the Universe in its monthly schedule.

On Saturday 21 October, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the Planetariums, "The International Moon Observation Night" is also celebrated, an event created and promoted every year by NASA, to encourage observation, appreciation and global understanding of the Moon. On the occasion of this event, the Planetarium of L'Unione Sarda offers a special dedicated to the Moon at 7pm with telescope observation, a preview of the appointment with the partial lunar eclipse on 28 October.

Over the 100 years of their history, planetariums have become places of culture, capable of inspiring the youngest and giving the older ones a vision of the Earth in the Universe. Theaters where science meets human culture, places of entertainment where you can look up to the sky.

The Planetarium of L'Unione Sarda, inaugurated in December 2011, opens every day upon reservation for schools and tells the story of the Universe with an extensive program schedule which can be consulted on the website www.planetariounionesarda.it or by calling 0706013552 .
