"To secure a pension tomorrow, you need to plan ahead." The president of INPS Gabriele Fava, looks to the future with confidence. The head of the social security institute opens up to young people and, on Sardinia, observes: "It is not an Island of pensioners, but a territorial pact for productive regeneration is needed."

Who he is. As a technician, a lawyer expert in Labor Law, he has been the head of social security since spring 2024, he boasts an impressive curriculum: a contract professor at the Catholic University, he was commissioner of Alitalia, in the process that privatized it into Ita, and vice president of the presidency council of the Court of Auditors. Today at 6 pm he will be in Cagliari, in the Canu room of Confcommercio in via Santa Gilla 6, for the Confcommercio conference on "Pensions and social security: what future awaits us?". "I often quote Enzo Ferrari: "The future is in the hands of those who know how to anticipate it". Our job is precisely to predict in order to prevent", says Fava. "Let's start with known data: Italy is aging and having few children. Faced with this scenario, INPS is acting proactively, investing in social security education, digital innovation and support for employability. The pure contributory system, introduced in 1995, imposes a new awareness: to guarantee an adequate pension tomorrow, you need to plan ahead. This is why we promote the pension culture, starting from school desks".

The project. The launch of “Inps for young people” has just begun. “It is a sign of trust. Trust to be rebuilt, brick by brick. With “Inps for young people” we want to offer a new face to the Institute: no longer perceived only as a pension agency, but as an active social presence also for the new generations. Young people are the issue, not a issue. If we want to build a solid and cohesive Italy, we must start from here”.

The data. «In Sardinia, the total of pensions in force is approximately 600 thousand, representing almost 3% of the national total. The benefits of disabled civilians are very high compared to the national figure as they represent 26% of the pensions in force in Sardinia and over half of the total of the first paid out». And what is the total amount of pensions? «The average gross monthly amount of social security payments in Sardinia is 1,240 euros in line with the national average of approximately 1,292 euros. Sardinia is also characterized by a gender gap in amount among the lowest in Italy, equal to 20% compared to a national average of 27%». And again:

"In 2024, Naspi beneficiaries amounted to over 2.8 million, with a total expenditure of almost 17 billion. The number of beneficiaries in Sardinia with at least one day of Naspi in 2024 was approximately 118 thousand people". What does the Island need, then? "A territorial pact for productive regeneration. INPS is ready to do its part: data, analysis, technical support. But an integrated vision between institutions, businesses and the third sector is needed".
