Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky makes a lightning visit to Rome.

The leader of Kiev was received at Palazzo Chigi by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni , who left the ongoing Council of Ministers early to welcome him.

A face-to-face meeting – between Zelensky and the Prime Minister – that lasted almost an hour .

During the meeting, Meloni reiterated Italy's "360-degree" support for Ukraine . "The key themes of our discussion included strengthening security, managing global developments and preparing for this year's Conference on Ukraine's recovery in Rome : I am deeply grateful to Italy and the Italian people for their unwavering support," Zelensky wrote on social media. Adding: "Together we can bring a just peace closer and strengthen our collective positions."

Ukraine and the conflict with Russia were also at the center of some of the questions that the Prime Minister answered during the press conference with journalists at the beginning of the year .

Also in the spotlight are the possible changes in direction of the United States in its support for Ukraine after the installation of the new administration led by Donald Trump. According to Meloni, the United States, even after the installation of the new president at the White House , will not abandon Kiev , which will continue to enjoy the support of NATO countries as has happened up to now.
