War in Ukraine: Trilateral meeting with US and Russia begins in Abu Dhabi
Donbass is at the center of the talks, with Moscow reiterating that "Kiev's army must leave the region."Talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States have begun in Abu Dhabi, although for now only informally. The focus is on territorial control in eastern Ukraine. To end the conflict, "the Ukrainian army must leave Donbass," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, as quoted by Russian media.
After a four-hour meeting with Vladimir Putin, Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled from Moscow to Abu Dhabi. US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll will also be there.
On the Ukrainian side, in addition to Rustem Umerov, Kyrylo Budanov, and diplomatic advisor Serhii Kyslytsia, the Chief of the Ukrainian Military General Staff, Andrii Khnatov, will also be present. Putin's envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, will be joined by the head of military intelligence, Admiral Igor Kostyukov.
The actual formal negotiations are expected to begin this evening.
