Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a new three-day ceasefire to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism, the Kremlin said on its Telegram channel.

The ceasefire will last from midnight May 7-8 until midnight May 10-11, the Kremlin said in a statement. "By decision of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Vladimir Putin," the Kremlin said, "for humanitarian reasons, from midnight May 7-8 to midnight May 10-11, the Russian side declares a ceasefire. All military actions are suspended during this period. Russia believes that the Ukrainian side will follow this example ."

"In case of violations of the ceasefire by the Ukrainian side , the Russian armed forces will give an adequate and effective response . The Russian side - the Kremlin also states - once again declares its readiness for peace negotiations without preconditions, aimed at eliminating the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and constructive interaction with international partners."

On the Ukrainian side, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga responded: "If Russia really wants peace, it should immediately cease fire. Why wait until May 8? If the war could be stopped now and the truce maintained for 30 days, it would be a real step forward, not just a gesture for a parade ."

" President Trump wants a permanent Russian-Ukrainian truce ," the White House spokeswoman commented in her briefing. The American president is " increasingly frustrated with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky, both of whom need to sit down at the negotiating table to end the war ."
