US, Trump revokes security detail for former Vice President Kamala Harris
The protection, which was intended to last six months after the end of the mandate, had been extended by Joe Biden until July 2026.

US President Donald Trump has decided to revoke the Secret Service protection of former Vice President Kamala Harris. The news emerged from a letter—quoted by CNN—sent yesterday to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Normally, protection for a former vice president lasts for the six months after leaving office , but now-former President Joe Biden had extended Harris's protection until July 2026. And it is precisely this extension that was rescinded by Trump .
“You are hereby authorized to terminate any security procedures previously authorized by executive memorandum, other than those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris,” the full text of the letter reads.
