Three people have died in an attack by a Ukrainian drone on a military airfield in Russia's Saratov region that was thwarted by Moscow's air defences, the Russian Defense Ministry said today.

"The Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle was approaching Engels airport at a low altitude," the TASS news agency said in a statement. “Three members of the Russian technical service at the airport suffered fatal injuries from falling drone fragments,” the ministry added.

The attack took place when it was 1.35 am in Moscow (23.35 Italian time): the drone was shot down but "as a result of falling pieces, three military technicians were fatally shot".

No Russian aircraft were hit or damaged in the attack, Moscow said. On December 5, Ukrainian drones hit Engels airport and another Russian military base in the Ryazan region.
