The Trump administration has approved an $825 million arms sale to Ukraine , which will include extended-range missiles and related equipment to boost its defensive capabilities, as US efforts to broker peace between Kiev and Moscow appear to be stalled.

The State Department announced Thursday that it has notified Congress of the sale of missiles with long-range strike munitions and navigation systems to Ukraine.

The sale will include 3,350 Eram missiles (range 240-400 km), 3,350 GPS units, as well as components, spare parts and other accessories, as well as training and technical support.

Kiev, it is specified, will use funding from NATO allies such as Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway, as well as foreign military funding from the United States, to pay for the equipment.

"This proposed sale will support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe ," the U.S. State Department said in a statement.
