Twenty migrants die of thirst in the Libyan desert

Deaths of thirst in the Libyan desert. This is the fate of 20 people found lifeless near the border with Chad: the vehicle in which they were traveling had broken down. The migrants probably came from Chad and were spotted 310 km south of Kufra.

The desert south of Libya, a country in chaos since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011, has in recent years become a focal point for the smuggling of goods and illegal immigration.

Thousands of people cross borders every year also to reach Europe.
