The U.S. Supreme Court has confirmed Lisa Cook to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, rejecting the Trump administration's attempt to remove her. The case is part of a broader tug-of-war between the White House and the central bank over the conduct of monetary policy and the limits of presidential authority over independent authorities.

The decision, adopted with five votes in favor and four against, thus strengthens the principle of independence of the American central bank and puts an end, at least for now, to an unprecedented institutional dispute. Had the appeal been upheld, Donald Trump would have become the first president since the Fed's founding in 1913 to remove a sitting governor.

However, the American president has received a second blow from the Supreme Court . The justices have upheld the jury's verdict that Donald Trump sexually abused and defamed the writer E. Jean Carroll , thus paving the way for the woman to obtain a $5 million settlement. The Court declined to hear Trump's appeal, offering no comment or recording any dissent.
