The phone call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump has ended and lasted over two hours .

The Russian president called it "meaningful, frank and very useful," Ria Novosti reported. Putin spoke from a music school he was in Sochi to open today.

A highly anticipated conversation in light of the talks that took place in Istanbul, in which the US president tried to understand the real intentions of his interlocutor regarding a peace agreement.

The Russian president said that during the meeting, Donald Trump expressed Washington's position on a ceasefire. Putin also thanked the head of the White House for resuming direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and reiterated that a ceasefire can be achieved "with appropriate agreements" and that the most important thing for Moscow is to "eliminate the root causes" of the conflict with Ukraine .

Before and immediately after the end of the phone call with Putin, the US president spoke only for a few minutes with Ukrainian President Zelensky.

Today's is the fourth telephone conversation between Putin and Trump, who in the US is described as increasingly "impatient" to reach an agreement and even "frustrated" by the stalemate in negotiations . On a possible face-to-face meeting between the two, which has been talked about for some time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov simply said that "it is not currently being prepared." The White House had said that the American president "is certainly open to a face-to-face meeting" with the Russian president.
