Donald Trump, Republican frontrunner in the race for the White House, is also under investigation for the assault on the Capitol.
He revealed it himself on his social Truth: Sunday evening he received a letter from special prosecutor Jack Smith stating that he is a target of the investigation into the attack of January 6, 2021 and he is given "only" 4 days to present himself before a grand jury , "which almost always means arrest and indictment."
The latest development confirms that a real judicial grip is tightening around Trump that risks seeing him in the dock in several trials in the coming months, including the crucial period of the primaries: in October in New York for the alleged frauds of his Trump Organization, in January for the second civil lawsuit against the writer Jean Carroll (sexual assault and defamation) and in March for false company payments in exchange for the silence (election) of two porn stars.
Waiting for the date of the trial for the Mar-a-Lago papers and the conclusions of the investigation in Georgia to be set and on 6 January. The latter risks being one of the most devastating and embarrassing for the tycoon, even if the allegations are not yet known.
For Trump it is a "witch hunt", a new "electoral interference", a "use of justice as a political weapon", something that "has never happened before in our country". The goal, he accuses, is to legally eliminate the almost certain Republican nominee, "far ahead even of Biden in the polls".
