Thousands of Bolsonaro supporters storm Parliament, clashes. Lula: «Vandal and fascist attack»

Brasilia like Washington, supporters of Jair Bolsonaro like those of Donald Trump.

Assault on Brazilian institutional offices, as happened two years ago on Capitol Hill. Supporters of former President Bolsonaro who do not accept Lula's victory in the last elections raided the Parliament building, the Planalto building, the seat of government, and the Supreme Electoral Tribunal building .

Thousands (10-15 thousand according to some witnesses) are the supporters of the ultra-conservative former president who have occupied the buildings: the demonstrators forced the defenses of the police forces at the end of a demonstration in support of Bolsonaro and after climbing onto the roof of Parliament they broke in, occupying offices and halls. They also attempted to storm the Supreme Court, which the police quickly regained control of.

President Lula is not in Brasilia at the moment but in the state of Sao Paulo, visiting some flooded areas . From there, precisely from the city of Araquara, he presided over an emergency meeting with the ministers of Defence, Justice and Institutional Relations. The president condemned the "vandal and fascist" attack and assured that "all those responsible will be identified and judged" . "These terrorists - added Lula, who ordered the closure of the center of the capital and is also evaluating the possibility of having the army intervene to clear out - will pay with all the force of the law, they must be punished in an exemplary manner".

Bolsonaro, who never congratulated Lula on his election, left Brazil on December 30 , two days before the end of his mandate, and went on board the presidential plane of the Air Force to Florida, in the United States United.

Dressed in yellow and green, the demonstrators carried out various acts of vandalism, according to what the Brazilian media write: broken glass in the windows (in the Senate they were all destroyed), seats in Parliament. The police forces, in riot gear, are preparing to break in while the military police are firing rubber and stun bullets from helicopters to disperse the rioters who are in the square of the Three Powers . Government officials, on the other hand, are waiting for planes to help them evacuate the area and put themselves out of harm's way.

“This absurd attempt to impose one's will by force will not prevail. The federal district government says there will be reinforcements. And the forces at our disposal are at work. I am in the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice," Brazilian Justice Minister Flavio Dino said. The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, repudiated the "acts of terrorism" seen in Brasilia and affirmed that "the putschists must immediately undergo all the rigor of the law" .

Exactly two years later, the assault on Capitol Hill is therefore being repeated, with practically identical methods and alignments: the militants of Bolsonaro's right, like the pro-Trumps, have decided not to respect the response of the polls which gave victory to the left and have passed to armed assault .
