Sardinian jockey Stefano Cherchi is in serious condition after falling during a race in Canberra , Australia.

The accident occurred yesterday at the Thoroughbred Park racecourse: the young jockey from Mores, 23 years old , was leading the race when the horse fell to the ground and unseated him. A fall that caused a carambola in which two other competitors were involved, who did not suffer serious injuries.

Cherchi suffered a head injury and internal bleeding according to Sky Sports. Rescued on the track for over an hour and stabilized, he was taken to Canberra hospital, where he is hospitalized in very serious conditions.

The New South Wales Jockeys Association said: «Following a fall in Canberra, Stefano Cherchi suffered a head injury and internal bleeding. Stefano was transported to Canberra Hospital, where doctors will assess the extent of his injuries. Let us pray for Stefano ."

Even Marco Botti, who was his coach, wrote a prayer message for him.
