The Cessna crashed in the Swiss Alps was identified under the command of the Sardinian pilot Massimo Giua, resident in the province of Perugia. The remains of the aircraft are located at the bottom of a gully, in an almost vertical position.
It had taken off from Siegen, in Germany, on the morning of 30 March towards Arezzo, then at 10.30 radar contact was lost. From the first hypotheses it would have crashed into Mount Grenzchopf between the cantons of Appenzell and St. Gallen, perhaps due to adverse weather conditions. The wreck was seen through the Swiss rescue drones.
The plane was flying at an altitude of about 7,100 feet and a speed of 166 knots. About the fate of Giua, 63, an expert pilot and specialized in launch flights for paratroopers, nothing is yet known.
