A young Italian climber, Elisabeth Lardschneider, died in a mountain accident in the Himalayas.

The 20-year-old, considered a promise of Italian climbing, had been meeting for a few weeks with other enthusiasts of the discipline in the Zanskar valley area, in India, to climb and open new routes.

During a climb, she fell 150 meters, dying instantly. The girl was very active in the South Tyrolean alpine club Alpenverein and dreamed of a professional future as a mountain guide and was an aspiring member of the legendary Catores, a sort of special unit of mountaineers and rescuers in the Dolomites. "The dismay is great in the town," said the mayor of Ortisei Tobia Moroder.
