The plane encounters "serious turbulence": one dead and numerous injured
It happened on a Singapore Airlines plane taking off from LondonOne person has died and several others have been injured on board a Singapore Airlines flight following "severe turbulence" during a flight from London to Singapore, which landed today at Bangkok Airport, Thailand.
The airline announced this in a note, which reads: «We can confirm that there are injuries and one death on board the Boeing 777-300ER. There were a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board."
The company did not say how many people were injured, the extent of their injuries or whether the victim was a passenger or crew member.
Singapore Airlines also said that flight SQ321 had taken off from London Heathrow Airport and "encountered severe turbulence en route".
The plane landed at Bangkok airport at 3.45pm local time (10.45am in Italy). “We are working with local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical assistance and have sent a team to Bangkok to provide any additional assistance needed,” the airline added.
From what we learn, the victim is believed to be a 73-year-old man, who was traveling with his wife. However, over 50 people were injured. From an initial reconstruction of the causes, the plane ran into a very violent air current and lost around 1,900 meters of altitude.
