The Republican-majority House defies Donald Trump and votes to block tariffs on Canada.
Six US Republicans joined forces with Democrats to halt the tariffs. The measure passed with a vote of 219 in favor and 211 against.
This blow to the Washington leader comes as some polls show the president—who has been in office for a year— losing popularity among Americans, and a widespread belief that his predecessor, Joe Biden, has outperformed him.
The data, Axios reports, shows how the incumbent president has blown his lead over his predecessor in what is a warning bell ahead of the midterm elections.
The Harvard Caps-Harris poll conducted between January 28 and 29 highlights that 51% of voters believe that Trump has done a worse job than Biden so far.
According to Rasmussen's survey, between February 2nd and 4th, 48% of respondents believe Biden has done a better job than Trump, compared to 40% who favor the current president. Finally, YouGov-Economist also found that between February 6th and 9th, 46% of Americans think Trump is doing a worse job.
