"Our European age verification app, tested in five member states, including Italy, is technically ready and will soon be available to citizens . This app will allow users to prove their age when accessing online platforms."

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced this at a press briefing in Brussels.

“It’s up to parents to raise their children, not the platforms,” he added, specifying that social media platforms offer an “addictive” environment and are not “good for young developing minds.”

The app is based on the principle of privacy-by-design, ensuring that users can prove their age (or not) without providing their full name or date of birth.
