The Government has extended the suspension of the Schengen Agreement with Spain by 15 days, specifically regarding the reintroduction of air and sea border controls for travelers arriving from Spain.

The Ministry of the Interior explains that this decision is based on ongoing critical issues in Ceuta and is therefore "taken in line with the analysis carried out by the Committee for the Analysis of Immigration and Border Security, given the continuing validity of the assessment criteria that were the basis for their reintroduction on August 1st. At the same time, it also takes into account the initiatives already launched by Spain, together with the European Union, to ensure that the situation in that area can move towards a return to normality in the near future."

The assessments underlying the extension measure "were communicated by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, to his Spanish counterpart, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, during a constructive telephone conversation," it added.
