A fire in a Hindu temple, resulting in the collapse of the roof, has caused a massacre in Indore, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. There are 35 confirmed victims, there are several injured and at least one missing.

The faithful were celebrating the Ram Navami holiday, the birthday of the Hindu god, when flames broke out and caused the roof of the stepweel, a traditional stepwell, to collapse.

Rescuers intervened with ropes and ladders to recover the survivors and the bodies of the victims.

Operations are still ongoing.
