His popemobile transformed into a small mobile health station for the children of Gaza. This is the request made by Pope Francis to Caritas Jerusalem, before he died. It is the one that Bergoglio had used in the historic trip to the Holy Land, in 2014 and which had remained in Bethlehem as a memento of that visit and as a symbol of peace.

The request was obviously accepted and the car was immediately made available to Caritas Jerusalem which is already preparing it with the help of Caritas Sweden.

"With the vehicle, we will be able to reach children who today have no access, the health system in Gaza is almost completely collapsed," says Peter Brune, secretary general of Caritas Sweden. The popemobile will be operated by a driver and doctors.

Now it will be equipped to bring aid to that community of Gaza, which the Pontiff called every day. Inside it will be the equipment needed to diagnose, test and treat diseases, including rapid tests for infections, suture kits, syringes and needles, oxygen supplies, vaccines and a refrigerator for medicines.

"This vehicle represents the love, care and closeness shown by His Holiness for the most vulnerable, which he has expressed throughout the crisis," says Sir Anton Asfar, secretary general of Caritas Jerusalem, who relaunches the appeal for "an immediate and lasting ceasefire. Our work in Gaza is a testimony to our unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of the community, even in the most difficult conditions"
