Five York County, Pennsylvania, police officers were involved in a dramatic shooting while executing a warrant.

Three officers were shot dead and two were injured, while the attacker reportedly took his own life . The shooting occurred in North Codorus Township, about 115 miles west of Philadelphia.

The incident took place on a rural road in south-central Pennsylvania, in an agricultural area with a barn and crop fields. Officers kept people away from the scene, with approximately 30 police vehicles blocking roads bordered by a barn, a goat farm, and soybean and corn fields.

"We will not rest until we have conducted a thorough, fair, and competent investigation into this matter," Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris said at a press conference. Paris declined to specify which police department the officers belonged to, but they were on site following up on a domestic violence investigation that began the previous day .

“We are saddened by the loss of three precious souls who served this county, this country,” said Governor Josh Shapirosa. “This type of violence is not acceptable, and we must do better as a society.”
