"It is shocking that such behavior has taken place on this scale in the heart of the government and what has happened has gone well below expected standards."
It is one of the passages of the independent report on the " Partygate " scandal, written by Sue Gray, a senior official, published in its entirety and delivered to Downing Street.
From the document, which points the finger at the British establishment, several images and emails emerge regarding the violations of the anti Covid rules in the 2020-21 period, during which the British had to observe a very hard lockdown .
THE EXCESS OF ALCOHOL AND PHOTOS
There is also talk of "excessive" alcohol drinking in institutional settings and points the finger at politicians, senior and less experienced officials. The 37-page document contains nine images of the two parties under investigation: four are related to Boris Johnson's birthday party in June 2020 in the Cabinet Room, for which Premier and Chancellor Rishi Sunak have already been fined by the police, and the others. five are those related to the farewell party in November 2020 for the then director of communications of the government, the former journalist Lee Cain , in which the prime minister also took part.
JOHNSON 'S BOARD
BoJo apologized and took "full responsibility". He fully recognized the conclusions of the report and the many revelations that emerged, which left him "surprised and disappointed".
But he tried to justify himself, claiming that he had not knowingly misled Parliament in the past into reconstructing events that, as it was revealed, were in open violation of the anti-Covid restrictions then in force.
By attending the events, he said, he wanted to show his " closeness to the Downing Street staff, who were working hard for many hours at the time ."
"I learned the laction", he concluded, saying he was confident of the changes made and convinced that now we must "go on and overcome" the scandal.
"RESOLVE"
But Labor is calling for his resignation. " The game is over, the premier pack your bags ", said the leader of the opposition Keir Stramer in a harsh speech in the House of Commons. “Those who pretend to make laws and at the same time violate them cannot remain in their place”.
