North Korea reportedly launched a ballistic missile from a submarine towards the Sea of Japan. On the case, "the intelligence authorities of South Korea and the United States are carrying out an in-depth investigation", writes the Joint Staff Command of Seoul in a note. All this would have happened while the main nuclear envoys of South Korea, the US and Japan are in Washington to discuss joint efforts to bring Pyongyang back to the negotiating table between humanitarian aid and other incentives.

Meanwhile, the Seoul Bureau has urgently met the National Security Council to examine the situation and respond to the ballistic launch.

For now, however, it is assumed that the short-range and unidentified missile is an SLBM (Submarine-launched ballistic missile, ed).
