Snow is causing disruption on one of the busiest weekends of the year in New York City and the northeastern United States. White flakes continue to fall heavily on the Big Apple in what local media is calling a full-blown "storm." As Sky News reports, a state of emergency has been declared in New York and New Jersey.
"Forecasters," the station recalls, "had predicted up to 11 inches of snow by 1 p.m. Saturday , with the heaviest accumulation expected in the northern parts of the New York City and New Jersey metropolitan areas. New York City received 4.3 inches of snow, its highest amount since 2022. "
The bad weather has already caused significant disruption to those travelling for the Christmas holidays , with at least 9,000 flights cancelled or delayed since Friday evening, according to flight tracking service FlightAware.
John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, and LaGuardia Airports have posted snow alerts on social media, warning that the weather could cause further flight disruptions.
