After a career of almost 70 years, Rupert Murdoch leaves the helm and takes a step back. The leadership of his empire passes to his son Lachlan, who becomes sole president of News Corp.

“It's the right time to take on different roles,” wrote the 92-year-old Murdoch to the employees of Fox and News Corp. “Our companies are in good health, like me,” added the Australian-born tycoon, pledging to remain involved, in his new role as president emeritus, with those news and ideas that made his career.

One of the most important challenges will be that of the American elections next year, considering the heavy consequences paid by Fox for the 2020 vote and for having ridden Donald Trump's 'big lie' on the stolen elections. Fox had to pay 787.5 million dollars to Dominion Systems, the company producing machines for tabulating votes that had accused it of defamation for having amplified and served as a megaphone for Trump's accusations on the alleged devices rigged to favor Joe Biden.

Murdoch had initially supported Trump, but then changed his mind and turned his back on him. Not even his son Lachlan is said to be a fan of the former president: convinced that his re-election would be negative for the country, he has criticized him several times.
