Sardinian diplomat Gabriele Annis new Italian ambassador to Mozambique.

The Farnesina made this known, announcing his settlement in Maputo, the capital of the country – almost 28 million inhabitants – in south-eastern Africa.

Born in Oristano on 28 July 1969, after graduating in Law from the University of Bologna, Annis obtained a Master's degree in International Relations from the University of Bristol (UK) in 1997. Following a competitive exam, on 30 December 1999 he was appointed Volunteer in the diplomatic career. After an initial assignment at the Press and Information Service of the Farnesina, in 2002 he was appointed Consul in Belo Horizonte . In 2006 he was appointed First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in New Delhi . In 2010 he returned to Rome to take up service at the Directorate General for Resources and Innovation of the Ministry, at the Unit for Industrial Relations, Innovation and Simplification. In 2012 he was appointed Counsellor for Emigration and Social Affairs at the Embassy in Brasilia . In 2016 he was appointed Ambassador to Assumption. In 2020 he returned to the Ministry to take up service as Head of the Secretariat of the Undersecretary of State. In 2021 he took over as Head of the External Relations Office of the Directorate General for the European Union. Since 2022 he has served at Roma Capitale as Director for International Relations.

He has now assumed the role of Ambassador of Italy to the Republic of Mozambique, with accreditation also to the Kingdom of eSwatini, the Republic of Botswana and the Southern African Development Community.
