Two Democratic congressmen from Minnesota and their spouses were shot by a man posing as a police officer. State Representative Melissa Hortman died along with her husband , and Senator John Hoffman and his wife were seriously injured.

According to initial reconstructions, the parliamentarians were hit by gunshots inside their respective homes.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities asking the population to stay indoors. According to CNN, a manhunt has begun with police looking for a man wearing a bulletproof vest.

“I have been made aware of the targeted shootings in Champlin and Brooklyn Park,” near Minneapolis, “authorities are on site and will have all the resources necessary. We are monitoring the situation,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said.

Police describe the fleeing suspect as a “white male with brown hair wearing a black bulletproof vest over a blue shirt and pants,” Fox reports.
