Full support for Ukraine and firmness on the territorial issue. This is what emerged from the phone call between European leaders Friedrich Merz, Emmanuel Macron, and Keir Starmer with President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to a report released by the German government.

During their meeting, the three leaders reiterated that they "will continue to pursue the goal of safeguarding vital European and Ukrainian interests in the long term," assuring Kiev of their "unwavering and full support for a lasting and just peace."

Merz, Macron and Starmer also welcomed US diplomatic efforts, including proposals regarding Ukrainian sovereignty and “robust” security guarantees to be offered to the invaded country.

One fixed point, however, remains the border issue: European leaders have stressed that the current front line must represent "the starting point" for any future territorial discussions, a position aimed at rejecting any suggestion of concessions to Moscow.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintain close coordination between European capitals and Kiev, in view of the next diplomatic and military stages of the conflict.
