Zelensky to Meloni and Mattarella: "Italy always stands with Kiev."
The Ukrainian leader at Palazzo Chigi, then met with the Head of State at the Quirinale."Over these four years, Europe and Italy have always stood by Kiev, its people, and its institutions. This is not only a moral duty but a strategic necessity," because "Europe's security is also at stake." This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in joint statements following her meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky , who was visiting Italy.
"Italy," Meloni added in her speech, "intends to continue doing its part to reach shared solutions that protect Kiev's sovereignty and ensure the solidity of the Euro-Atlantic alliance. A divided West and a fractured Europe would be the only true gift we could give Moscow."
In his speech, the Kiev leader thanked Italy for its support and underlined the need for " European security coordination" once the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is finally resolved.
After Palazzo Chigi, the Kiev leader stopped at the Quirinale Palace to meet with President Sergio Mattarella. On this occasion, the Head of State reiterated to Zelensky "not only the deep friendship that binds Ukraine and Italy, but also Italy's great support and full support for his country, for what he is doing with great resilience and heroism." Mattarella added: "I know you met with the Prime Minister, who certainly confirmed Italy's full support, the firmness of this position, which I fully share, and I reiterate that Italy will always stand by Ukraine."
