There has been a sensational turn of events in the investigation into the death of Isak Andic, the historic founder of the famous Spanish fashion brand Mango, who died on 14 December 2024 during a hike in Montserrat, Catalonia .

The Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan police, arrested his eldest son, Jonathan Andic, today on charges of murder . The businessman, who has always maintained that his father accidentally fell during a mountain hike in Montserrat, Catalonia, was transferred to the Martorell courthouse for further questioning.

A real twist in the case, which had initially been filed as an accident in January 2025. And instead, according to investigators, it was the son who knocked it down.

Isak Andic, 71, a passionate mountaineer, fell 150 meters into a ravine in the Montserrat caves in the town of Colibató, Catalonia, while hiking with his eldest son.

It was Jonathan Andic himself who raised the alarm around 1 p.m. to the emergency services, who activated the rescue teams. During the journey, according to his son, the entrepreneur was walking about a hundred meters ahead of his father when he heard the sound of falling rocks and saw Isak fall into the void , unable to hold on or stop his fall.

The investigation was initially dismissed as a mountaineering accident. However, in recent months, the judiciary reopened the investigation, after last November the investigating judge questioned Isak Andic's daughters, Judith and Sarah—sisters of Jonathan—the deceased businessman's brother, Nahman Andic, and the current president of the Mango group, Toni Ruiz.

The magistrate had formally registered Jonathan Andic as a suspect, also arousing suspicions due to the fact that a few days before the accident, the eldest son of the Mango owner had gone to the same location. The magistrates suspect that he was preparing for the excursion and planning the murder . The investigation later revealed a tense relationship between the father and his eldest son . Isak Andic had handed over the reins of the company to him in 2014, but after a year, he was forced to intervene again to relaunch it. This would have strained the relationship between the two.

The Andic family is one of the most influential in Spanish business: Mango, a company founded in Barcelona in 1984, is now one of Europe's leading fast fashion groups, with a strong presence in the Italian market as well. The entrepreneur's net worth exceeded €4 billion.
