Knife attack in Manchester, outside an Orthodox synagogue.

The toll stands at four injured and one dead: the attacker was hit by police fire, who responded to the scene after the alarm was raised. This was confirmed by Andy Burnham, the mayor of the northern English city.

According to an initial reconstruction, the four people involved suffered both stab wounds and trauma caused by the impact of a vehicle with which the stabber hit some of them as they were leaving the temple, before getting out of the vehicle to continue the stabbing attack.

The attack on the temple, frequented by Ashkenazi Orthodox worshippers and a place of worship since 1967, was carried out on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement in the Jewish religion.
