Iranian authorities have abolished the institution of the moral police .
This was announced by attorney general Mohammad Jafar Montazeri: "The moral police have nothing to do with the judiciary, and it was abolished by whoever created it," he said yesterday in the holy city of Qom, south of Tehran.
One way to try to defuse the riots that continue after the death of Mahsa Amini , the 22-year-old Iranian woman arrested by the morality police because she didn't wear the veil correctly and died after three days in the hospital where she had arrived from the barracks already in a coma.
The Iranian Parliament and the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution are also examining the issue of the hijab, the Islamic veil, which is mandatory for women .
"On Wednesday we had a meeting with the cultural commission of the Parliament and we will see the results in a week or two," explained Montazeri.
