Two people, including a child, have died in a knife attack in a park in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria.

The attack took place in the city center, in Schontal Park, a man stabbed a group of kindergarten children at gunpoint: many were hit, in addition to the two victims there are several injured, two of whom are in serious condition. A 2-year-old child and a 41-year-old man who intervened to defend them lost their lives.

The perpetrator was arrested by the police, who tried to escape across the railway tracks, forcing the interruption of train circulation at the southern station. He is a 28-year-old Afghan, Enamullah O., who lives in a center for asylum seekers.

The motives for the attack are still unclear, a second person initially detained was instead found not to be involved and considered a witness. When asked if it was a terrorist attack, the police responded: "We can neither confirm nor deny."

After the attack, the park - considered unsafe and therefore monitored by the police - was closed to the public. And the police, even if the origin of the attack is still to be clarified, reported that there would be no other dangers for the residents.
