A failure has affected the UK's air traffic control systems, disrupting arrivals and departures, with repercussions across Europe.

The situation has been confirmed by the British Air Traffic Authority (Nats), according to which, following technical problems, flight restrictions have been applied to ensure safety.

According to the BBC, many airlines have warned passengers about the delays that are piling up.

European air traffic authority Eurocontrol has warned of "very long" delays due to a "flight data processing system failure" in the UK.

This is a serious computer-related problem of national significance although, as the British authority Nats points out, it has not led to the decision to close the airspace at the moment. The media are collecting the testimonies of passengers aboard planes stopped on the runway in some European airports who do not receive authorization to take off for the United Kingdom.

Inconvenience and delays also for direct flights to Sardinia. Among other things, the Ryanair flight from Munich to Cagliari of Sardinian athletes Lorenzo Patta and Dalia Kaddari on their return from the Budapest World Championships was cancelled
