The U.S. State Department and the virtual embassy in Tehran have issued an urgent warning to U.S. citizens in Iran, urging them to "depart immediately" due to intensifying protests across the country, violence, and an internet shutdown.

The warning was issued on Monday, as Iran entered a third week of anti-government demonstrations , with hundreds of deaths and thousands of arrests, according to human rights groups and media reports.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced a new trade crackdown targeting the Islamic Republic: "Effective immediately, any country doing business with Iran will be required to pay a 25% tariff on all trade transactions with the United States of America. This order is final and binding."

For its part, the Tehran regime has called for thousands of people to take to the streets for a counter-demonstration in support of the Islamic Republic and has activated diplomatic channels with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff to try to defuse the threat of US military intervention.
