The one that has been burning Greece for 11 days has been defined as one of the largest fires ever recorded in Europe.

To deal with the emergency, the Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Center mobilized 11 firefighting planes and one helicopter from the rescEU reserve, stationed in 6 Member States. In addition, 6 European countries contributed 6 ground firefighting teams through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

More than 81,000 hectares have been burned so far in the Greek region of Alexandroupoli, 20 dead.

The blaze is the largest in the EU since 2000, when the European Forest Fire Information System started recording data.
