The rise in infections sounds the alarm bell also in Belgium, yet another European country that is preparing to reintroduce some restrictions. Between 3 and 9 November an average of 10,081 new infections were detected per day, + 39% compared to the previous week.

Hospitalizations are also growing (+ 21%), with almost 2,400 citizens hospitalized in Covid wards. The “psychological threshold” has also been exceeded, as the Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke defined it, of the 500 hospitalized in intensive care (there are 516).

This is why the country is preparing for a tightening, at least these are the recommendations of the governing technical-scientific committee. Experts ask for the restoration of the obligatory mask indoors from nine years of age, the return to teleworking where possible, the closure of discos and indoor sports activities, including gyms, for at least three weeks.

The government will meet on November 17 to make decisions on the matter.
