An IDF unit fired warning shots into the air during a diplomatic visit to Jenin in the West Bank, sparking panic.

The delegation consisted of 25 European ambassadors and diplomats (including the Italian vice-consul in Jerusalem Alessandro Tutino), but also Arab, Chinese, Japanese, Indian and other people from around the world.

After the incident, the Israeli military apologized for the incident , saying it "regret[ed]" for firing warning shots into the air "and causing the inconvenience."

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry explained that the international diplomatic delegation "was carrying out an official mission to observe and assess the humanitarian situation and document the violations perpetrated by the Israeli army against the Palestinian people."

“This deliberate and unlawful act constitutes a clear and serious violation of international law,” the Palestinian ministry added, calling for international protection for the people and diplomatic personnel operating in Palestine.

After the incident, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani telephoned Vice Consul Tutino , as he himself reported on X: «I have just spoken with Alessandro Tutino, the Italian Vice Consul in Jerusalem, who is well and who was among the diplomats who were allegedly attacked by gunfire near the Jenin refugee camp . We ask the Israeli government to immediately clarify what happened. Threats against diplomats are unacceptable» , we read further in the post by the head of the Farnesina.
