Today Doina Matei , the Romanian woman, then 21, who ended up on trial for manslaughter and was sentenced to 16 years , has no property , with two dependent children. For this reason, the compensation assigned to the victim's family, quantified at 760 thousand euros, will have to be paid by the Italian state .

The case was sparking controversy. And it is not the first time that Matei returns to the headlines after the sentence.
