The Israeli military announced on Saturday that it will establish humanitarian corridors to allow United Nations convoys to travel safely to Gaza , as well as resume airdrops of humanitarian aid into the territory, following an assessment of the situation and in accordance with the directives of the political leadership.

According to the IDF, the airdrop operations will be coordinated with international humanitarian organizations. The airdrops will include food parcels, including flour, sugar, and canned goods, provided by international partners . According to Haaretz, the Israeli military will facilitate water desalination services in the Gaza Strip by connecting them to power lines from Israel. The desalination plant, according to the IDF, should be capable of producing up to 20,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day.

The announcement comes after at least 42 Palestinians have lost their lives in the Gaza Strip since Friday evening. The last 10 died in the past few hours, not far from the Zikim crossing with Israel, while waiting to receive food. They were hit by airstrikes or by fire from IDF soldiers on the ground, according to Palestinian medical and civil defense sources.

Regarding the Zikim incident, the military claims to have fired " warning shots " and is not aware of any deaths or injuries.
